Why Do We Fight?

It was a beautiful December day in magnificent Hawaii. The Christmas holiday season was approaching and everyone was getting excited to spend time with their families. Out of nowhere came an angry swarm of Japanese fighter jets as if someone shook their hive. They unleashed a fury of firepower onto the U.S. Pacific fleet of Naval warships destroying many and killing many of our brave men and women.

The attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 was a day that changed our nations position in the world forever. Until that moment we were neutral for the most part in the World War that was engaged all throughout Europe. Following the attack America joined the war and ended it with the dropping of the atomic bomb onto Japan.

Why did the government decide to go to war with Japan? Why did we go to war with Iraq? Why do we fight with each other? These are all questions that are going to be covered within this chapter. Before we get into these details, I want to discuss the different types of fighting that we can become engaged.

The first type of fighting that may pop into your mind is war. That is one nation versus another or many other nations. It can be a civil war within the same nation. This is the extreme to physical violence. That is where the goal is to hurt the other until they no longer have the will or ability to fight. If you achieve this goal you win the war or fight. Leaders in time of war and professional fighters before a fight spend a great deal of time formulating a strategy to reach his or her goal.

Another type of fighting that many dont plan a strategy for is a verbal dispute. This can be a lovers quarrel about something important or about something tiny like how to get to a restaurant. A verbal fight may be the bickering between friends over a basketball shot. It could be a hardy debate over the best candidate for an upcoming election. A harsh e-mail can even be the fulcrum of a dispute.

The truth is there are thousands of examples for the different types of fighting that we may encounter. However, physical and verbal disputes are the two main types of quarrels at the end of the day. Every single one of us has been involved in one or both of these types on more than one occasion. What drove you to fight?

What would motivate someone to fight? There are many reasons. You might disrespect me or my beliefs. You could threaten my property or my body. Maybe you challenge me to a fight. The underlying reason is that I have something that you want. The next few paragraphs are going to get into each of the above in a little more detail.

I am going to start with the most obvious of the three and that is if you threaten or attack my body or property. This is what drove us into World War II. Our property was attacked and our military blood was shed. We were enraged on one hand and on the other we had to fight back for self-preservation.

What if we had ignored the attacks? Every nation on this planet would feel as if they could get away with the same thing. Eventually, we could be conquered by another nation. The first emotion that we feel is rage towards the attacker. We want them to feel the same pain or even greater pain than what we experienced. This is the reaction that we have to a situation.

Every situation requires a reaction or a response. To react is an instinctual action that occurs. This is like a flinch when someone swats at you. Often the reaction is not the best decision, but we feel that we do not know any better. If someone yells at you, you are probably tempted to yell something back to them. You are likely to say the wrong things if you do not think before you speak.

We are designed and have the instinctual desire to react. One of Sir Isaac Newtons laws of physics states that every action will have an opposite but equal reaction. This is the counter-attack and often it is not equal. Usually the person counter-attacking wants revenge and reacts in a more aggressive manner. That in turn sparks the need for a reaction from the other person and so forth.

Have you ever played a prank on someone or been the butt of a joke? What happened next? Most likely you had to get them back. In fact, you had to get them even better to save face with others and to let them know you are not a punk. Then this person probably reacted with something even bigger and the cycle continues until it is out of control. That is true in every type of fighting.

Do not feel hopeless or upset about this, if you are a reactor there is hope. The antidote to the reaction poison is to respond. A response is the planned counter-attack. You are not flinching you are strategically answering the attack based on past experience and knowledge or training.

When I would train someone in free-sparring in Tae Kwon Do I would lay down the ground rules of safety and then cover the different ways to score points. A head shot was worth two points and the body was worth one point. Naturally, everyone did nothing but kicks to the head the entire fight. That is the way to get the most points, but rarely did a single one of them kick me in the head. This was not because I am a great fighter it was because I was much more experienced and new how to see that kick coming.

People often telegraph their true intents if you watch their body language. I was able to determine from the position of their hips whether they were on the attack or retreat. I was able to tell by the distribution of weight on their feet which foot they would kick with. Then often they would look to the location they desired to kick. All this was seen before they even picked the foot up and attempted to raise it six feet to my head. Because of my training I did not have to react, I had time to formulate a response.

Knowledge and training allowed me to think about the best way to counter-attack to reach my victory as opposed to just throwing a gut reactive attack that most likely would be very ineffective and a depletion of my energy. There is a story that I recall that keeps me level-headed in these situations. It goes back to a technical school class at Dover AFB, DE.

I was working on C-5A/B Cargo Aircraft at the time and needed to learn how to operate the jet engines. There are many safety precautions that are taken to prevent disasters and minimize damage in the event of a fire. We had many steps on a checklist to follow to accomplish this engineered response and had to know the first three by heart. The instructor would throw emergencies at us while in the simulator to give us the experience. Even though it was a computer program our adrenaline would get pumping and we had the tendency to react and do the wrong thing. The instructor advised me to sit on my hands until I had the proper response.

By sitting on your hands and thinking things through you are more likely to choose the response that is best for the situation. In the case of the airplane; choosing the wrong switch could result in disaster. Sitting on your hands for a second allows for the emotion to calm and a level head to prevail. In other words, sitting on your hands allows you to combat the feeling of rage which drives us to react to an attack.

The number one reason that people resort to violence is that they feel disrespected. If you step on my beliefs or hurt my ego I am not being respected by you. I want revenge. I start by bickering and trying to solve the problem with words. If you choose the wrong words I am hurt even more and I will react. This will continue until I have no more perceivable words that will get through to you. Then I see physical action as my last resort.

A good friend Damien Thomas loved to get under peoples skin. He would make jokes and knew exactly what buttons to push to get a rise out of you. He told me once to watch as he played a joke on someone or made a comment to see how they reacted. If they hit him or threatened to hit him as a reaction it meant they had nothing to say. They saw violence as the last resort to regain their image and respect.

We do not often just invade another nation. When something happens that we do not agree with, we start with diplomacy. There are statesman and representatives of the government that try to talk through the issues. Once talk stops showing results or glimpses of hope we declare war and the armies begin to march. The Iraq War began this way. We tried to sanction the Iraqi government to inspect for weapons of mass destruction and Sadam Hussein kept toying with the United Nations inspectors. President Bush answered with a declaration of war.

I use wars as an example because they are the extreme to fighting. If you look back into history at conflicts and wars you will see they all were over the reasons listed above. We are the same in our quarrels and disputes. We feel as if our property is threatened as it was in the attack of Pearl Harbor. We get to the point to where words are not enough and we begin to see no other feasible action which leads to a dispute or even a war. This is evident in the Iraq War where we felt as if we were disrespected.

The last of the three reasons is if we are challenged. This could be a boxing match or martial arts tournament. Maybe it is a debate or sports game. It could even be a board or computer game against a friend. Whatever the challenge, it still has the same guidelines and principles as a fight.

We challenge others for fun, honor, or some type of reward. Many people have much fun playing board games like chess or checkers against one another. It is a great feeling to be competitive against others. When we play a game on our own we do not push ourselves to our limits and therefore never get better.

Playing against someone with comparable or better skills drives us to use our full potential. No one wants to lose at anything because it feels so good to win and therefore we pull all the tricks out of our bag. Playing against another also allows us to sharpen our skills and even learn new tricks. If I see my competitor doing something that I think is more effective I am going to adopt that. I will then practice what I learned on my own and then try it against my next challenger.

Lets go back to the world of Tae Kwon Do for a short story about competition. Three of my best friends and I had our own little group that would work out together and even hang out together when not in class. We all had different talents and skill sets in a variety of areas. What was great about us is that we constantly were pushing each other to get better. If I was running sprints faster during our workout, the others would go home and practice and train until they could beat me. Meanwhile, I would be working on kicking harder than one of them because they were kicking harder in practice.

I am sure all of us have seen something that another has or can do and had the desire to share that ability. We see someone at the beach with a muscular or trim body and that may push us to get in the gym. Another business is getting the product to market faster or better and we need to step up our game. I will be honest sometimes it is fun to compete simply to deflate the big-headed balloon of that loud-mouth coworker.

Competing against others is very healthy in that it pushes us to get better. Some fighters get paid millions of dollars to fight for capacity crowds. Without challenges and competition we would all be happy with the status quo and mediocrity. The conditioning of our bodies and minds would diminish. Businesses would be able to charge anything and do whatever if there were no competitors.

Human nature is to react to a challenge, disrespect or personal property attacks. Fighting is not necessarily the best action and in most cases should and could be avoided. Reactions will result in a more extensive reaction and so on as the cycle continues. There is a Chinese proverb that states, War does not determine who is right, war determines who is left.

We need to learn from past personal experiences and from world history to respond and not flinch. Sit on your hands for a moment and utilize your knowledge to determine the outcome you desire. Then what response is best suited to get you to that conclusion. Never forget that violence is the last resort of someone that cant perceive any other solution.

Always Tired? Tips for Overcoming Exhaustion and Fatigue

Exhaustion is a condition that plagues many of us. With all the running around required today, its no wonder we feel tired and lost at times. With the high-stress, fast-paced requirements of life, it is important to minimize conditions that cause fatigue. Try these tactics to eliminate tired days:

Learn stress management. When a person is feeling stressed, his muscles are tenser and his body uses more energy. Consider taking a workshop, talking to a profes-sional or reading a book on stress management.

Make sure that you are getting enough sleep. If you are putting in eight hours of sleep time but still waking feeling less than rejuvenated watch for slumber-inhibitors. Eat a lighter dinner. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants for at least four hours prior to bedtime, longer if possible.

Exercising 3-5 days a week, for 30 minutes or more, is a great way to increase your energy level. While it may seem you cannot spare thirty minutes, you will have more productive time and be more energetic if you incorporate regular exercise into your schedule. With this new-found energy, making up the time spent on exercising will be a snap. Many gyms now have day care. Or better yet, involve your child in the activity. Jogging strollers and bike attachments are perfect for toddlers. Try a bicycle or two, a long walk or lap at the pool with older chil-dren. This helps create quality time, increases self-esteem and energy, while teaching your child the benefits of tak-ing care of yourself. What a tradeoff for a 1 to 2 hour investment of your time each week.

Watch what you eat and when. Lunches that are high in carbohydrates serve as great pick-me-ups for a couple of hours, but lead to an afternoon slump. Eat a lunch high in protein to avoid the afternoon lull. Also avoid eating after seven p.m., if possible.

Be careful of dehydration. When you become thirsty, your body might be dehydrated. This is a common cause of fatigue. Attempt to drink eight to ten glasses of water each day.

Watch your weight. If you are more than ten pounds overweight, consider making preparations to switch to a more healthy eating regimen. Excess weight leads to fatigue.

Federal Prison Camp - Punishment or Vacation

Do you ever wonder what goes on in a federal prison camp? What does an inmate do all day? As a former federal prison camp inmate I will give you a brief overview of one camp and then you can decide for yourself, is this punishment or is it just a vacation.

First let me begin with the housing arrangement. Use your imagination and picture a large empty warehouse building with heating and air conditioning, add 64 bunk beds with a locker and chair next to each one. Then add three offices one for a correctional officer and the other two for administrative use, one recreation supply room, one exercise room with four pieces of equipment, laundry room with eight washers and dryers plus an ice machine, three closed in TV rooms with a larger TV in the open, fourteen private showers with plenty hot water and a large restroom with a separate lavatory area.

Second is the food service. Breakfast was from 6:00 am every morning weekdays and 7:00 am on weekends with food ranging from fruits, cereal and milk to prepared eggs with toast. Lunch was always schedule for 11:00am and dinner at 4:00 pm with a menu that consisted of a simple peanut butter sandwich and hot dog to baked turkey with all the trimmings. The food quantity is abundant and quality was like at a university or school cafeteria.

Third was an assigned work details. The work mainly assigned to inmates consisted of maintaining the federal prison camp and high security prison next door from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays with an hour lunch. Work was first assigned to those with specific skills. For example a mechanic worked in the garage maintaining the fleet of government vehicles, a welder was assigned to the welding shop for institution needs, someone skilled in heating and air was assigned to the maintenance department, and those with computer and administrative skills would work in education, administration or on a computer. The other work details ranged from food service to janitorial or landscaping to warehouse workers. Did you know that inmates were paid and hourly wage for their work? A prison inmates income in the federal prison camp usually ranges from a few dollars to over a hundred per month depending on the work detail they are assigned to.

Fourth is recreation and leisure time. After seven hours of work and afternoon dinner every inmate spends time on their own interest or just relaxing. Inmate activities consisting of watching TV all night, drawing and painting in the art room, leather craft, reading and writing in the library, listening to music or watch educational materials provided by the prison camp administration, walking around the track, exercise, play recreational sports like basketball, soccer, handball, flag football, baseball, volleyball or ping pong, some take time to do laundry, taking a nap or playing cards and dominos with other inmates.

Fifth is weekend visitation. Families are allowed to visit their loved ones from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Visitation takes place in an open area where everything is visible and usually only one correctional officer is monitoring the visit. Up to five family members can visit with an inmate for the entire time and on some occasions with permission more than five. It looks like a big family reunion with all the kids playing and adults talking.

Sixth is religion. Every inmate is free to worship whatever faith they follow. Federal prison chaplains are available to see that time and schedules are set aside for inmates to worship. Volunteers and church groups visit often to provide church services and bible studies to inmates.
Seventh is the medical facility. If an inmate was to get sick or hurt a medical team is on staff to handle any situation as well local hospitals for emergencies.

Finally there is the commissary. This is provided to inmates once every week where they can shop and purchase any variety of items from chips and candy to multi vitamins, stamps and birthday cards to over the counter medication. The commissary is similar to the mini-marts you stop to get gas and with similar prices. So if an inmate is unhappy with a particular menu that day he can always fall back on a microwavable dish from the commissary and TV watching always goes better with a hot bag of buttered popcorn.

Well now you know the facts about one United States federal prison camp. What do you think is it punishment or is it a vacation?

Here is just a little article on Australian Bass

Australian Bass
(Macquaria novemaculeata)

Habits and Habitat
The Australian bass is a very territorial fish that provides excellent sport on light gear. These fish are found as far north as the Mary River. It must travel to the salt water reaches to breed and therefore is unable to breed in dams. Australian bass are stocked in nearly all dams in southern Queensland. They are commonly found around timbered areas and snags or shallow weed areas along the banks of impoundments in the chase of surface insects. Australian bass have a varied diet including insects from the surface, bottom organisms including aquatic insects, shrimps and other freshwater crustaceans, tadpoles and small fish. In saltwater they will feed on various crustaceans including prawns and small crabs, worms and fish.

Best Months
Although bass commonly migrate down rivers and streams for their annual spawning during winter, the best time to chase bass is in the warmer summer months, November to March. However, these fish can be caught all year round in our impoundments without too much effort.

Size and Bag Limits
In Queensland you are allowed to have 2 fish in possession and the size limit is a 30cm minimum.

Closed Season
A closed season applies to fishing for Australian bass in Queensland from June 1 through to the 31st August. This rule excludes fishing in the dams for bass, only applying to natural waters. Some exceptions apply in upstream waters of certain dams, including Baroon Pocket Dam. There is also a complete ban on fishing in Obi Obi creek between Baroon Pocket Dam and Skenes Creek. See the Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries website www.dpi.qld.gov. au/fishweb for more information.

Dangers of Spyware

What is Spyware?
Spyware is any software that: 1. installed on your computer without your knowledge or consent; 2. tries to make it difficult (or impossible) for you to remove it; 3. sends information about you, your computer, your files or your Internet use to someone without your knowledge or consent; 4. sends information about you and discloses this to you in an obfuscated way.

What is Adware?
Adware is very similar to spyware (for example, it will often embed itself deep within your computer and make it almost impossible for you to remove it). Its main difference is that Adware pops up ads on your desktop constantly -- it makes its money from ads, not necessarily from selling information about you.

Where does Spyware or Adware come from, and how do your computer get it?
The answer to this question is probably as large as spyware / adware programs are numerous. Spyware / Adware often comes packaged with other software, File-sharing and music-sharing programs (often called "P2P") are the most serious offenders. or Some spyware / adware you may download willingly, not knowing that it does more than originally meets the eye. there are other methods as well. Some spyware is downloaded by your web browser pseudo-automatically. If you visit certain websites, those sites will try to send spyware / adware as a plug-in for your browser.

Your browser will ask you if you want to install the plug-in; if you say yes, your computer is open to whatever that site wants to install. And even worse than that, some spyware or adware acts like a virus to force its way onto your computer. This type of spyware or adware is often used by hackers and can cause all manner of problems on your computer. And some spyware/adware is commercially sold. It is used by employers to spy on employees, family members to spy on each other; anyone who has access to your computer can install this spyware/adware software and can then watch everything you type or everything you look at on your screen.

What is the dangers of Spyware/Adware?
The dangers of spyware or adware is obvious: companies are building databases about the sites you visit and the things you search for, people can watch everything you do on your computer, advertisers can shove pop-ups in your face even when you're not surfing, and hackers can even wreck your computer.

Spyware/Adware software is often poorly written. If your computer runs more and more slowly as it gets older, and you haven't made any changes to it to make it run more slowly, there's a good chance that it's getting clogged up with spyware or adware. Since spyware or adware watches everything you surf, or everything you type, and since there are many types of spyware or adware that can all be installed on your computer at once, spyware or adware can really kill your computer's performance.

With these concerns and many others too numerous to list here, spyware or adware is considered by many to be on par with viruses in terms of the power to harm your computer. And on top of that, spyware or adware jeopardizes your privacy, something viruses don't do. For all these reasons, the danger of spyware/adware is great.

What Is The Best Boat Insurance Company?

There is no right answer when someone asks which boat insurance company is the best. There are so many choices available that it is hard to determine the very best. It really all depends on what the specific needs of the person wanting to insure the boat are.

Facing the facts, there are pros and cons about every insurance company that you will deal with. After all, insurance companies are in business to make money, not to pay it out. This means that they will do anything in their power to not have to pay for claims, as this is the way they make money. If they do happen to pay for a claim then they will raise the rates on your insurance to help cover the loss or they will simply cancel the policy, whichever best suits their needs. For an insurance company to cancel a policy they have most likely determined that the policy is too much of a risk to continue to prevent any further claims. Having a policy cancelled can make it difficult to get insurance elsewhere.

BoatU.S. has been insuring boats, and only boats, since they opened in the late 1960s. They are said to offer some of the lowest rates and best coverage depending on the craft covered. Their web site offers free instant quotes.

National Marine Underwriters is another strictly boat insurance company. They offer insurance in the 48 contiguous states with some limited territory extensions from time to time. In business since 1983, they offer lower rates and comprehensive coverage for all risk factors.

Progressive Boat, a division of Progressive Auto is one of the cheaper boat insurance companies but they are said to not offer nearly as many services and less comprehensive coverage. They do offer free online instant quotes and their staff is said to be one of the most knowledgeable and friendly groups in the business.

American Boating Association is also an option in the boat insurance world. They offer competitive rates that are comparable to Progressive Boat but they are a little shy in the services area. Free instant online quotes are available. Quotes are also available by telephone but it you should expect a long wait on the line. Their staff is professional and friendly.

To determine the best boat insurance for you then go to a site that offers multiple quotes from several different insurance companies. This will provide you with the best basic information about several companies at the same time which will save you time versus calling all the individual insurance companies.

Many sites offer guaranteed rates if you accept one of the quotes they provide but this is not a widely accepted practice. Keep in mind that insurance companies are not necessarily bound to a quote they provide. Insurance companies will want to verify all information provided to them before making a policy available for purchase. This is required to protect against insurance fraud, which is quite commonplace in this world sadly enough.

Mansi Aggarwal recommends that you visit best boat insurance company.

Who Else Wants To Be A Six Figure Network Marketer

If you want to be a six figure network marketer you need to know some crucial questions to ask prospects in their first interview and be able to record their answers. This could reveal who will be your next key business leader in your organization.

I like to call my data collection method my prospect profile sheet. At the top of this sheet you should gather all of the general and personal information, such as:
* Interview Date
* Name
* Company
* Mailing Address
* Phone
* Personality traits
* Strengths
* Weaknesses
* Hot Button

One of the main differences between ultra successful (six figure) network marketers and other network marketers is their ability to recognize potential key prospects when they meet them. Most of the big time network marketers have one to four people in their organization that make them 90% of their money.

They do have more people than that in their down-line, but most people who do network marketing are part-timers so the majority of their down-line actually produces a smaller number of sales, when compared to the business one to four key business leaders pulls in.

So, how do you spot these key business leaders? On Your prospect sheet after the general info section you need to list several questions that you can ask each prospect. This will help you determine their abilities and potential.

In this situation, you shut up and let them do most of the talking. You are only listening, and you need to listen well because the information you obtain from them could be crucial to your success. Make sure you write their answers down on your profile sheet so you can compare answers of different prospects and look them over later on if you need to.

The first questions you should ask are: Have you owned a business before? How long have you been in the industry? What company?

If they answer "no" to these questions then I am afraid your prospect is probably not ready for your team. I am not saying they will never be successful, but you don't want to waste your time teaching absolute beginners, you want people who know about and believe in network marketing.

If they answer yes to these questions then you want to ask why they started/wanted a home business? Make sure you get a detailed answer here.

This is a lot of what you are looking for. This is where someone reveals whether they want to make a $100 a month on the side or if they want to be Donald Trump.

A few follow up questions to ask are:
* How are you building your business? What has been your biggest challenge? Why?
* How many people are you sponsoring each week? Size of organization?
* How much money do you invest in your business each month? How much are you making?
* What is your ultimate goal in this industry? (Find out their "why." What will they use the money for?)
* Married? Have any kids? Hobbies? (Find something in common with them.)
* [their name], If there is anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to give me a call. Here is my number.

And with that, the interview is over and you have some important information to go over and compare with previous prospect interviews. At the bottom of your prospect sheet you should put a couple of follow up dates of when you wish to contact the person again, if they are worthy candidates for your opportunity.

With this information I hope you can successfully categorize and keep track of your prospects information and be able to determine what prospects could become a key leader in your network marketing organization.

Disadvantages Of Pesticides

The terms Pesticides refers to many chemicals including herbicides, insecticides and fungicides and are designed to kill certain types of pest. These include insects, plants, fungi, moulds and rodents. Pesticides are used in modern farming on fruit and vegetables to increase yields and are thought to increase produce quality. However, pesticides are toxic chemicals designed to kill agricultural pests but can also cause problems with human health if exposed to in large amounts. Aldicarb used on potatoes, Carbendazim used on cereals, oilseed rape, fruit and vegetables, Chlormequat used on wheat, rye, oats, flowers, pears, almonds and tomatoes, Chlorothalonil used to kill fungal disease in crops, Chlorpyrifos used on apples, Pirimiphos-methyl used in cereal based infant food, Trifluralin used to kill weeds in fruit, vegetables and arable crops and Vinclozolin used peas, vines, oilseed rape and other fruit and vegetables to kill plant disease are all harmful to human health and the environment. I feel that because I eat a lot of these types of food that I have a great potential to be affected by the toxic chemicals used in these pesticides. Many organ systems such as the nervous and the brain can be subtly or permanently damaged in childhood. The endocrine system is more sensitive to pesticides and it is now known that many pesticides are endocrine disrupters which can affect the hormone balance within the body.

Pesticides are not only used in farming but we also use them within our homes and gardens. We use them on our lawns to kill weeds such as clover and dandelions and on our flowerbeds to kill insect pests such as greenfly. In our homes we use them in fly killer sprays to kill house flies and in insecticides to kill wood boring insects such as woodworm. Childrens immune systems are more susceptible to these pesticides as they spend more time playing in the garden and in the home. Children are also susceptible to catching head lice which is treated with shampoo with pesticides within them.

To protect children from pesticides it is best to feed them organically or ecologically grown food especially those foods that are produced with the aid of high amounts of pesticides. Wash and peel all fruits and vegetables especially if waxed, wash in mild dish detergent or diluted vinegar. Cut out the stork end of fruit as this funnel shape of the fruit is where pesticides are concentrated most. Buy locally grown food as this has not been sprayed for shipment or export. Pesticide residues are also found in meat and diary foods so it is best to buy organic. Make sure that childrens play areas are free from pesticides. If children have head lice than use non-chemical shampoo, shampooing with tea-tree oil can help with head lice. Avoid using pesticides to deal with pets fleas use herbal shampoos and vacuum pets bedding. Use all-natural insect repellent as an alternative to pesticide based repellent. Avoid using pressure treated wood within the home as all pressure treated wood contains pesticides. Encourage schools to use natural native plants within their playing fields and yards to reduce the use of pesticides. Native plants are hardier to pests than introduced plants species. Make sure children wash their hands after playing in school play areas which tend to use pesticides.

A lot of people are exposed to pesticides within their working environment. Farmers, pesticide applicators and workers in pesticides manufactures are the occupations that we tend to think of first but forestry employees, horticultural workers, textile workers, airline crews, military personnel, park workers, food service workers, golf course employees, veterinarians and employees of electrical utilities all come in contact with pesticides within their working environment. Exposure to pesticides within a working environment can cause cancer, brain tumours, stillbirths, birth defects, spontaneous abortions, and neurological and psychiatric effects. Workers should wear proper protective clothing when exposed to pesticides.

Urban lawns and gardens, public parks, golf courses, playing fields and road verges are sprayed with pesticides more than agricultural land. Indoors, pesticides are used to spray cockroaches, fleas, and other pests within homes, schools, hospitals, office buildings, supermarkets, stores, arenas and food storage buildings increasing exposure especially if the building is poorly ventilated.

To reduce the use of pesticides within cities, indoors and in outside spaces it is best to avoid using pesticides on lawns, there are many books on organic gardening, avoid outside spaces that have been recently sprayed, whilst playing golf keep balls and tees away from the mouth and wash hands and shoes after playing the game, if pets have a flea problem use herbal shampoos and collars plus avoidance methods such as flea combs, to combat insects within the home, keep it clean, avoid leaving food out, fill in cracks and gaps where they tend to like to live and research natural ways of insect control.

To conclude, to reduce the risk from pesticides eat organically and ecologically grown food, wash and peel vegetables and fruit, grow your own food, avoid fatty foods or trim fat from meat as persistent pesticides are stored in fatty tissue, cook vegetables rather than eat them raw all the time, cook meat and chicken thoroughly, garden in a non-chemical way without pesticides, avoid using chemical and pesticide based head lice shampoos, encourage schools to use non-pesticide methods within their environment, keep away from areas that have been freshly sprayed with pesticides and if your job involves exposure to pesticides make sure you are wearing proper protective clothing.
